NAMIBIAN President Hage Geingob has dismissed calls of making an end to bring back an exile leader Mr.Mishake Muyongo, in finding the lasting solution saying Namibia is a Unitary State that cannot be divided.
Dr.Geingob was responding to a question raised by a former member of parliament, Mr Alfred Chilinda who asked the question during the public meeting initiated by president Geingob for the first time as head of State on Wednesday.
A concerned resident Mr Chilinda asked Geingob how his government has taken the matter of the Caprivi long political stalemate “Mr President you have declared another war that democracy should not be going back to war, you have said nicely that the order of the day should be dialogue, my tribesman when I speak live in fear they have got their people outside this country, I would like to know how far have you engaged with the leaders of the people that took our children outside so that our children can come back home, how far is your government has taken this?” quashed the politician.
President Geingob rejected a call of a political dialogue with the Caprivi leader who is wanted for high treason in fighting for the independence of the Caprivi Strip whom he described as the founding member of the constitution of the Republic of Namibia in 1990 “Mishake Muyongo was a drafter of the constitution praised by the world, we talk about Unitary State clearly now you are saying a person who want to secede I should bring him back and arrest him for treason,it’s a serious problem.” Explained the president.
Thirteen Namibians calling themselves as Caprivians who have been granted refugee status by UNHCR in Dukwi refugee camp in Botswana fifteen years ago, were in the country last month to come and see and go back and tell on the mission to familiarise themselves under the auspices of the Tripartite Commission composed of Botswana,
Namibia and UNHCR who have set December 31, to end cessation of refugee status.
The Namibian president also assured residents who were gathering at Ngweze Community Hall on the recent visit of the Namibian refugees as he castigated that “Botswana government brought people back here and accompanying them to come and find out whether they have come back, what happened they came to campaign here, we are not Namibians we are Caprivians we want to get our own country, you are saying I must talk to them am the president of Namibia, that’s a big problem.”
“Some people came back here home those who regard this country as their country they can come back tomorrow we will see to it that they are well received.”
The President also distanced himself on the issue saying his government is not ready to discuss issues of secession and they was no need of going for a referendum as only a few number of people are supporting the idea of secession.
He added that “ If it is a political agenda which politician going to allow somebody to come and destroy the country by dividing it, if you say lets have a referendum one day for the differencing to see how many want that, and from what we see it is a small minority”
The Namibian president was accompanied by some of his Cabinet Ministers, such as Dr Bernard Haufiku Minister of Health and Social Services, Tom Alweendo Minister of Economic Planning, Minister of Urban and Rural Development Sophia Shaningwa, Minister of Works and Transport Alpheus !Naruseb, Presidential Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi , including his new three appointed special advisers, Mr.Albertus Aochamub Press Secretary, Dr John Steytler Economic Adviser and Ms.Daisry Mathias Youth Adviser.
