The common dangerous disease known as foot and mouth disease (FMD) that kills domestic animals in the eastern Caprivi is under prevention after the Directorate of Veterinary Services in Katima Mulilo detected it on November 26,2011.

A former  Estate  Agent for  Katima  Mulilo   Town Council  is demanding  Twenty-Five  Million  Namibian  dollars commission  for  the sale of 500 houses  to Katima  residents  in the  locations of Benjamin  Bebi ,Greenwell Matongo and  Nambweza.

A resident of Mwazi Village  at Singalamwe  Area ,140 Kilometers  west  of Caprivi, Mr. Victor  Tutangane  (39) who  was  shot by  the Namibian police on  the  foot  is calling for  the prosecutor  General  to  review  his case.

Namibian  Police Inspector  General ,Lt General  Sebastian  Ndeitunga , has recently  declined  to allow  a peaceful  march  by  a concerned  group  planned   to hand  over  the petition   calling  for a political  dialogue  surrounding  the Caprivi  Saga.

A man  who  slit  the  throat  of his girl  friend (Monde Mbolelwa ) during  valentines day  made his  second appearance  before  the Katima Mulilo  magistrate  court on April 18,2012.

Police Officer in court for raping  a minor

A -36- year old Namibian male police  officer  is waiting  for judgment  after  his  final  trial  that  set  on April 26, 2012 in Katima  Mulilo  regional  court  where  he was  found  guilty  for  raping a young girl on December 28,2008.

Concerned residents of the Caprivi  region  whose  petition  was turned down  in April by the Namibian  government  as a pro-secessionist, recently  conducted  their  first –ever  public  meeting on  June 3 in Caprivi region.

A 58- year old woman ,who narrowly escaped  dearth  by a whisker  when a bus  crashed  her leg  at Katima Mulilo  Open Market last month ,has been  rendered  disabled after  she was amputated.

Govt  to  construct  statehouses in  Regions.

The motion that was  tabled by National Council (NC)at  parliament  in May 7 to 24,has  considered  the appropriate  bill which  emphasizes  more  on  financial  allocation  for  each  ministry  for  the  period year of  2012-2013 to construct  state  houses  in all 13 regions of Namibia.

Govt pumps N$20 Million for roads  in  Katima  Mulilo

Caprivi Regional Government and  Katima Mulilo  Local  Government  have  both  set aside  a multi-Million  dollars  project  for the  tune  of  Twenty  million  Namibian  dollars (N$20M) for  tarring  Six (6) main  streets  of  Katima  Mulilo town.

 

 

 

JULY 2012

Police  Nabs 14 Taxi drivers  for public violence.

About  fourteen  taxi drivers  were  arrested  by Nampol at Katima  Mulilo  for obstruction and interfering with the police officers while on duty last month.

Police constable sentenced to 30 years  imprisonment.

A  Namibian  police  (NAMPOL) constable, Samuel Andreas (36) was sentenced  to 30 years  imprisonment  for rape  on June 6,when  he appeared  before  the  Katima  Mulilo regional court.

Mother seeks  compensation   from  MVA fund for son’s dearth.

A 56-year old  Region Nanvula  Muhinda,a  resident of Katima Mulilo , is seeking   compensation from  Motor Vehicle Fund(MVA)  for the  loss of   suffering  following her  son’s dearth  in a fatal  road accident between Windhoek  and  Usakos Road in 2009.

Caprivi Governor condemns  prejudice  ‘SMS’.

Caprivi Regional Governor   Hon .Alfrea  Lawrence  Sampofu has condemned a short message service(SMS) that  circulated amongst cellphone  recipients shortly  after  the  dearth  of SWAPO Councillor Mr. Felix ‘Njangula’ Kabuku  Mukupi  on June 16.

AUGUST 2012

Caprivi High Treason Case to acquit more.

About 111 secessionist  accused  suspect  who have in police detention for close  to thirteen  years are expected  to  be acquitted  of  the high  treason  charges brought  against  them in 1999 and 2000.

Namibia condemns BDF shoot-to-kill tactics.

Safety and Security Minister,Nangolo  Mbumba  has strongly  condemned the  Botswana Defence Force (BDF) actions of shooting  innocent  Namibians at Caprivi  region ,when  found  illegally  on their side of  the  country  instead  of arresting and detaining  them.

 

Ngoma residents cry foul over cross- border killings.

Family members  of the  Namibians  who  were killed by Botswana  Defence  Force(BDF) over the years  are seeking  government  intervention  to investigate  of their deaths.

The establishment of another  Sub-Khuta ,Xhoruha  ,at Sauzuo  in  Sangwali   area, south of Katima Mulilo  has  triggered  conflict  and  is now pitting  family members  against  each other  with  those  supporting  the Nyowani Sub-Khuta .

 

SEPTEMBER 2012

School principal demands half a million  from  Govt

A school principal with 26-years teaching  experience  is demanding N$500 000 from  the ministry of education for working  as a head master  at  two  schools  in western Caprivi for nearly  five years.

Katima Mulilo  Police Chief in court for theft.

Chief Inspector Fredrick Nalisa (50) was arrested last month for alleged theft  and has since appeared  in court where he was  released  on N$2000 bail.

Don’t change Caprivi name.

In response to the  proposal  on re-naming  the Caprivi  Region which  was  reported in the Namibian  Newspaper of Monday,July 30,2012.

 

OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2012

Treason trial Postponed.

The Caprivi High  Treason  trial  in which 92 of the 109 accused  detains had launched applications  with  their  defence  lawyers  to be  released  from custody,was postponed  to February 11,2013 for  Judge Elton Hoff to give  his verdict.

Examination question paper theft suspects in court.

About 23 Grade 10 and 12 learners  in Caprivi region  made  their court  appearance on  October  24  before  the Katima Mulilo  Magistrate  court(B) on the charges  of theft ,after  they were  found  in possession  of the 2012 final  examination question papers.

Mr Victor  Tutangane (39) a  resident of Mwanzi  village at Singalamwe  area  in Caprivi  region  who was  allegedly shot  by  the police during  an ambush, has received legal representation  to fight his case

DECEMBER 2012

Finaughty’s grand children demand  N$90 million compensation .

Eight(8) grand children  of a late businessman William  Finaughty in  the Caprivi  strip are demanding  inheritance  and compensation  of land  along  the Zambezi  river  bank, which  is now in dispute  that  is pitting  them against  the Government.

 

Katima  Mayor steps down.

In an unforeseen turn  of  events , Swapo  appointed councilor  and mayor  of Katima  Mulilo  in Caprivi  region ,Mr . John Musialela  Likando stepped  down  as the town’s municipal  head  on November  30.

 

Pohamba reshuffles cabinet, dismisses Kazenambo.

Namibian president  Hifikepunye  Pohamba has  reshuffled  and redeployed his  cabinet ministers   and  governors , just days  after  the ruling  party Swapo  held its  fifth  congress.
