The Katima Mulilo Town Council’s former Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Charles Nawa Nawa, died on Friday, January 2, 2026, after an illness in Windhoek.

The late Mr. Nawa died at the age of 57 and served as the Chief Executive Officer from 2012–2016.

Former Mayor Mr. Charles Mukaya Matengu expressed his heartfelt condolences, stating that the late Mr. Nawa was an instrumental figure with whom he had worked during his tenure as Mayor of Katima Mulilo and as a member of the Management Committee. Mr. Matengu added that Mr. Nawa implemented the town’s development agendas, particularly the construction of houses for the people of Katima Mulilo, among other projects.

“You acquitted yourself with honour and distinction during your tenure as CEO of Katima Town. Honourable Maswahu, as Chairperson of the Management Committee, and I, as your Mayor, witnessed many development activities in this beautiful town,” explained Mr. Matengu.

Mr. Matengu told Caprivi Vision that under Mr. Nawa’s stewardship as the town’s CEO, a role he assumed in December 2012 after taking over from Dr. Vincent Sazita, he undertook many development activities, including the first phase of street naming, honouring 15 individuals who sacrificed their lives and efforts during Namibia’s liberation struggle.

“Numerous developments were achieved; I will mention a few: 1,250 NHE houses were built next to Boma. New suburbs were established, namely Extensions 7 and 8; suburbs in Mahohoma and the adjacent areas; and Macaravani East was formalised, among others.”

The former Katima Mayor recalled that under his tenure, some gravel roads were tarred. Other achievements included the erection of the first traffic lights in Katima Mulilo and the establishment of three satellite police stations for the Namibian Police, accessible to residents in Choto, Cowboy, and Mahohoma locations, to prevent crime.

“The list of developments when you were CEO is long. A proper account will be given at your memorial; you acquitted yourself well. Go well, my brother, you fought a good fight,” he recalled.

He is survived by his wife and nine children.

ENDS.
