The Namibian government through the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (MIRT), in conjunction with the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME), will host the second Ministerial Regional Business Engagement at Otjiwarongo in Otjozondjupa Region on Friday, July 18, 2025.

In a media release issued by Amb Penda Naanda, Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Trade on Thursday, states that the engagement forms part of a nationwide consultation series across all 14 regions, which designed to create awareness, identify export-ready businesses, and ensure the effective implementation of AfCFTA in Namibia.

As part of its national strategy to deepen integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Minister of International Relations and Trade, will deliver the keynote address.

She will emphasize government’s unwavering commitment to fostering public-private sector collaboration.

Her statement is expected to highlight the importance of preparing Namibian enterprises particularly small and medium-sized businesses for the opportunities presented by the African Continental market.

The Otjiwarongo consultation follows the successful launch of Namibia’s first trade under AfCFTA, marking a historic milestone in the country’s efforts to expand its reach into continental markets.

Government officials have underscored that these engagements are not only informative, but also serve as a two-way dialogue with the private sector to address challenges and shape responsive policy measures.

“This regional outreach is a crucial step in ensuring that local businesses understand the mechanics and benefits of AfCFTA,” Amb. Naanda said in a statement.

“Our goal is to unlock inclusive trade growth that uplifts all Namibians, no matter their region.”

The event is expected to bring together business leaders, SMEs, trade stakeholders, and local authorities in creating a platform for direct engagement on export strategies, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable trade practices.

Future engagements are scheduled in the remaining regions, by reinforcing the government’s resolve to leave no region behind in the journey towards continental trade integration.
