NDF starts Civil-Military Cooperation Sensitization Campaign in Zambezi

THE Namibia Defence Force (NDF) and its Botswana Defence Force (BDF) counterpart, have started the Civil–Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Sensitization Campaign which officially kicked off on Monday June 9, 2025 with the first community visits to Ngoma Sub-Khuta and Chinhimane Sub-Khuta in Zambezi Region.

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs has announced on Thursday, on its Facebook page that this joint initiative between Namibia and Botswana, was launched on 11 June and 13 June 2024 which is aimed to strengthen peaceful cross-border relations.

The Defence and Veterans Affairs ministry emphasized that through collaboration with Offices, Ministries, Agencies, and other key stakeholders of the two countries, are working together to foster harmony and cooperation among their border communities.

“This second phase of the Joint Sensitization Campaign runs from 9 June to 5 July 2025 and will reach 27 villages along the Namibian border and 17 in Botswana.” Said the statement

Areas to be visited are divided in two sectors: Sector 2: Mohembo to Trans-Kalahari (Namibia) and Shakawe to Mamuno (Botswana).

Sector 3: Trans-Kalahari to Union’s End (Namibia) and Mamuno to Union’s End (Botswana), while diplomatic ties between the two nations remain strong, border communities continue to face challenges such as human-wildlife conflict, stock theft and cross-border crime.

“The CIMIC Initiative seeks to address these issues by raising awareness and promoting peaceful co-existence and good neighborliness.”

The statement further said that “the main goal of the campaign is to promote unity and cooperation, emphasising a shared future built on mutual understanding, respect, and compassion among the diverse populations living in the region.”
