Namibia is currently participating in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), scheduled from 20–22 August 2025, where Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare lead the Namibian delegation.
The summit is held in Yokohama, Japan, bringing together leaders and stakeholders to strengthen cooperation between Africa, Japan, and global partners.
Prime Minister , Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare is accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, as well as senior government officials from various offices, ministries, and agencies. Namibia’s presence at TICAD reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable development, regional integration, and enhanced cooperation with international partners.
On the sidelines of the conference, Namibia will also participate in the TICAD 9 Business Expo, where local enterprises will showcase products and services to promote investment opportunities and access new markets in Asia and beyond.
It was established in 1993, and TICAD serves as a platform for advancing Africa’s development through global cooperation. This year’s summit, co-hosted with the United Nations, World Bank, and African Union, will focus on economic growth, social development, human security, peace, stability, and good governance.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, TICAD 9 will emphasize health, education, climate resilience, food security, clean water, and technology transfer. Namibia, which has been an active participant in TICAD since its inception, also took part in the Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo in August 2024, which laid the foundation for the summit’s key priorities.
With its continued engagement, Namibia seeks to strengthen multilateral ties and secure opportunities that support long-term sustainable growth.
