This was divulged by Mr. Richard Matengu, the Regional Co-ordinator for Metal and Allied Workers Union after it had been noted that some Employers do not follow the labour law.

“We had a research and from this research we discovered that some employers do not do things accordingly and some employees are abused because they are not aware or are not familiar with their rights in the work place”.

He explained that some people do not fully understand the Labour Act of Namibia and he advised them to visit their nearest labour offices to fully understand how the labour law operates.

Mr. Matengu  further explained that it had been discovered that some employees feel intimidated in their places of work and some are denied their basic right of annual leave, “We even discovered that some employees are not even formally contracted which is a wrong thing to do”, he said.

He further advised employers to apply for Labour Consultants, “They should know and understand the Labour Laws of the country and abide by them”, he warned.
