Former Caprivi Prisoner Mwilima Dies at 70, Weeks After Prison Release

Mr. Geoffrey Kupuzo Mwilima (Senior), a former Caprivi High Treason Prisoner and Member of Parliament

Mr. Geoffrey Kupuzo Mwilima (Senior), a former Caprivi High Treason Prisoner and Member of Parliament, died on Thursday at Windhoek Private Hospital, at the age of 70.

His death occurred just over a month after his release from a Namibian prison on December 24, 2025.

Prior to his release on remission by correctional authorities, he had been sentenced to 15 years in 2015 following a lengthy trial.

He was arrested in August 1999 while serving as a Member of Parliament for the DTA.

He served as a Member of the National Assembly from 1992–1999, as Shadow Minister of Youth and Sport, and as a Member of the National Assembly during the Transitional Government (1985–1989).

He was born on 15 July 1955 at Kanono, Caprivi (Now Zambezi).
