Zambian National Gets 15 years Sentence for Murder

By Simon Liseli

A-26- year old Zambian young- man was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment after the Katima Mulilo Regional Court Magistrate William Kasitomo found him guilty on July 17 for murder.

Mr.Given Manyando Mushiba killed Magret Habasepi Manyando by hitting her on the head with an unknown object when he broke and entered into her house at Kazinzila village in the Ngoma area situated east of Katima Mulilo town on August 12 and 13, 2009.

After hitting Habasepi, Mushiba then searched through her house and made away with a black bag and some curtains and disappeared to Mutwalwizi village in Lusese area where he was employed as a head boy.
Mushiba was arrested a few weeks later in September when villagers suspected him as he had disappeared from the village without informing anyone of his plans of leaving to the homestead.
The police were then tipped off, leading to Mushiba’s arrest and subsequently found him with the Manyando’s properties.

Mushiba’s case started in the Katima Mulilo Regional Court on June 6, 2010, after which he was convicted on July 5 this year for murder with direct intent when he appeared before regional court magistrate Mr.Kasitomo who postponed the judgment to July 17.

Mushiba conducted his own defence while the state was represented by public prosecutor Jatiel Mudamburi.
