In a decisive move to protect citizens from economic and political contention, the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Hon. James Sankwasa has issued a directive to all local authorities to cease renewing contracts with Red-Force Debt Collectors.
This directive was communicated in a letter addressed to all Mayors and Chief Executive Officers of Local Authority Councils in Namibia.
The directive highlights that some municipalities and town councils have engaged Red-Force Debt Collector Company to recover debts on behalf of local authorities from residents and businesses for the services which were not rendered.
However, Minister Sankwasa has observed that the company’s practices have caused significant economic and political challenges for citizens and residents in the affected localities.
“All local authorities with existing contracts with Red-Force Debt Collector for collecting debts are hereby directed not to renew such agreements at the expiry date. This ministerial directive should be adhered to without fail, as it has a very negative effect on our citizens,
Those municipalities and town councils which have not yet entered into an agreement with RedForce are equally Directed not to do so” stated the directive.
He boldly emphasized that all municipalities and town councils that have not yet entered into agreements with Red-Force are also instructed to refrain from doing so.
The ministerial directive signed on August 4, 2025 by Mr. Sankwasa, aims to mitigate the adverse effect on citizens and restore stability in local communities.
