Social Security Commission workers on strike

Social Security Commission employees are on stay away and have strongly accused the management and the board of commission for misappropriating funds.
Workers have been on strike since March 19, country wide while in Katima Mulilo , the petition was read by Mr. Reagen Mukena Head of the Satellite Office.
In the petition which was circulated to its offices in the country , workers expressed dismay in which the executive management and the commissioners utilised funds.

They said , SSC Executive Officer Mr. Kapara Tjivikua now on suspension since December 2012 lacked interpersonal competence and skills “ in most cases he was being driven by his personal emotions as he cannot control his emotions” read the petition.
They added that the Executive Officer spent N$114 329, 00 and more to pay lawyers to dismiss his junior employee Mr. Duscan Kabende and he did not want to pay long service awards to long serving staff members.

The Board of Commissioners is also accused for using N$ 99 000.00 to N$120,000.00 for paying lawyers to suspend the Executive Officer.
“The commissioners spend more than N$100,000.00 on iPads for themselves and increased their sitting allowance image, from N$3000.00 to N$10 000,00”

They have also accused the management and the board for spending exorbitant amounts of money on a South African based consultant to perform their daily operational activities of which the outcome never implemented and the board of commission are bypassing internal policy such as job grading by blue Horizon, a South African Company whereas the Internal Policy make provision for job grading to be done by an In-house trained Committee.

The petition continued demanding that the management should fulfil salary negotiations that were agreed between the labour union in August 2010.
“We reject to be paid N$600.00,N$700.00,N$2000.00 as long service award , after having worked for SSC for 5 years, 10 years and 15years respectively. Meanwhile the SSC money is being misused by Executive Management and Board of Commissioner”

They further demanded for the speedy implementation of long service award, reinstatement of Mr. Kabende a union leader who was dismissed by Mr. Tjivikua for no apparent reason and the promotional increase to all branch managers.

“ We demand a full audit into financial and operational affairs of the commission .We demand that the Executive Management and Board of Commissioners to be sacked.” Workers explained in the petition.

However, Mr. Joshua Mabuku, Deputy Chairperson of NAPWU in the Caprivi region confirmed to Caprivi Vision that the industrial Action taken by employees of Social Security was legal and it has to be imposed until further notice.
