Newly elected Chairperson of the Zambezi Regional Council Management Committee, and Councillor for Katima Mulilo Rural Constituency Hon. Wardens Matengu Simushi has called for unity among residents and the newly sworn-in Regional Councillors.

Mr.Simushi made these sentiments during the inauguration of the eight (8) newly elected Regional Councillors on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 that was held at the Zambezi Regional Council office.
Simushi who was very humble and excited to be elected as Chairperson of Zambezi regional management committee promised that he will always available when and where he is needed.
In his acceptance speech, He said that although it’s a challenging task but with the trust shown by his fellow councillors, he will perform his duties.
“Being a Chairperson does not limit me only to my constituency but to all other constituencies and for such I will not tolerate tribalism, favouritism and corruption at the expense of the residents of this region” he noted.
He lamented that he has been elected to represent the interest of the residents of the region and not his own interest, and he strongly requested for unity to build the region.
Councillor Simushi thanked and urged all Councillors that will serve to remain united at all time.
“To those who have been elected to serve in the regional management committee and representatives to the National Council (Parliament) to take into account that they are many challenges that residents of this region are facing and as a united team we can overcome these challenges” he said.
The Chairperson also said that all elected Councillors will be visiting all eight constituencies on a regular basis to establish challenges and be able to move in a right direction for the benefit of the residents.
Councillor Simushi commended his predecessor Mr. Bevin Munali and all former councillors for the work done during their five (5) years period in office and wished them all the best. He thanked the regional governor Hon Alfea Sampofu for his advices to councillors whenever they go wrong.
“Since your appointment by the former president Dr. Hifikepunye Pohamba you have tried to up lift the livelihood of the residents of this region” he concluded.
In his remark, Zambezi Governor Alfea Lawrence Sampofu congratulated Councillors and requested to treat all residents equally.
“Taking offices means you should uphold and abide by the constitution of the republic of Namibia, code of ethics for Councillors and regional council’s act 22 of 1992 as amended and all other rules of the country” advised governor Sampofu.
He called on residents of the region to render support to both local and regional Councillors for them to be able to execute their duties.
Eight (8) Councillors from different constituencies of Zambezi region who won the just ended Regional Council elections on November 25, 2020 such as Hon. Humphrey Divai for Judea Lyabboloma, Hon. Bernard Sisamu for Kabbe North, Hon. John Likando for Kabbe South, Hon.Wardens Simushi for Katima Mulilo Rural, Hon. John Mukaya for Katima Mulilo Urban, Hon. Bennetty Likukela Busihu for Kongola, Iven Kabunga for Linyanti and Hon. Mike Lukaezi for Sibbinda were sworn-in by magistrate David Munsu.

Hon.Divai and Hon.Sisamu were selected to be in the management committee.
However, three(3) councillors, Hon. Likando (SWAPO) ,Hon. Lukaezi (IPC) and Hon. Mukaya (SWAPO) were elected among themselves to represent Zambezi region in the National Council, parliament the house of review in Namibia.
