Lumponjani promoted into a senior position

Caprivi Regional Sport Officer (RSO) Mr. Ben Lumponjani has been promoted to a more senior position of a Sport Officer (SO).

Mr. Lumponjani, a teacher by profession, with over 28 year’s experience, was transferred from the Ministry of Education to that of National Youth, Sport and Culture, where he held the position of RSO until the recent promotion.

Lumponjani, an avid sportsman, who also served as a Chairperson for Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) in 2002, helped formulate the sport code committee such as athletics, netball, boxing, basketball and cricket, which heightened the sports improvement in the region.

In no modest terms, Lumponjani said his new position, which was advertised in 2011, comes at the right time after working hard to achieve his set goals, with the inspiration of his mentors.

“I was not just promoted but I applied for the post. My hard work in sport careers is an added advantage. I m now following the footsteps of the Chief sport officer who is based in the city” he beamed.
Lumponjani calls of the regions’ community to join hands rather than relaying on one person to organize everything. He further urged talented sportsmen and women, along with fanatics, to teach the youths and encourage them be actively involved in sports.

“There are many experts in this region, who are talented in different sport activities, but they are hiding their talents. I call on the same experts to come through and encourage and teach the youth to take up careers in sports like I did” he quashed.

Lumponjani also used the platform to inform the community that his office will make Caprivi region’s sports unique from other regions.
“Companies are now sponsoring us with sport equipments that can help us to improve, despite expensive items such as bicycles proving difficult to obtain, but we will continue to utilize what we have in stock,” He said.
