Katima Wanderers Wins 2012 Sanlam Easter Cup

KATIMA Wanderers Football Club were crowned the 2012 Sanlam Easter Cup Champions after they defeated 2011 champions Kingfisher F.C (2-1) in the  delayed Final match on April 15 at Katima Mulilo Sport Complex.

The new champions (Katima Wanderers) made their intentions of becoming the winners clear from the on-set as they scored the opening goal within 15 minutes of starting time.

The teams went into the break with Katima Wanderers leading the score at 1-nil, however defending champions Kingfisher were not to go down without a fight after they equalised through a penalty early in the second half.

Katima Wanderers kept on applying the pressure in the second half and finally pulled one back after slip ups from the Kingfisher Defence, and were able to hold on to the one goal advantage until the referee blew the final whistle to end the game.

Wanderers fans were ecstatic as they rushed onto the field as soon as the whistle blew to celebrate with the team.

2011 champions Kingfisher had thrashed Green Eagles F.C (4-1) in the first semi-finals to proceed to their second consecutive final in two years while Bush Bucks F.C were un-able to overcome eventual champions Katima Wanderers in the other semi-final.

The heroes, Katima Wanderers walked away with a floating trophy plus  a cash prize of N$12000.00 followed by Kingfisher who  won  the second prize of N$5000.00 after finishing as runners-up, while Bush Bucks and Green Eagles each received amounts of N$3000.00 and N$2000.00 for third and fourth place respectively.

Other prizes that were won on the final Day of the 2012 The Easter Cup Tournament were that of the man of the match Quaterfinals by Mr.Muwana Mwala, Njamba Njamba, Mubatu Mbanga and Sazita Sizwe who all received an amount of N$200.00 each.

While the Man of the Match Semi finals were awarded to Mr.Mubuyeta Milo and Mr.Makando Tection, each player received an amount of N$400.00.

The finals saw Katima Wanderers team captain Mr. Njamba Njamba  walk away with the cash prize of N$400.00 as the man of the match,  while Mr. Joseph Mutaniseko  received a cash prize of N$400.00 as the best player.

Top Goal-Scorers of the tournament Mr.Mwala and Mr.Mbala all received an amount of N$250.00 each for scoring 8 goals respectively.
