First Katima mayor, a prominent business man and a civil engineer was laid to rest at his home business at Kasika lodge on Friday, September 11.
The late Mr.Gerhardus Visagie died on August 28, 2020 at the age of 92.
He was the only white first Katima Mulilo Mayor who served from 1992 – 1994 under DTA ticket , and an initiator of development in Katima Mulilo during its dispensation as the Local Authority government.
The late Mr.Visagie was an architect of houses in the old locations of Katima Mulilo town.
He was the owner of Zambezi Queen Cruise which operates on the Zambezi River, and Zambezi Lodge now owned by Protea Hotels.
He was laid to rest next to his late wife Alta Visagie who died on August 4, 2019.
He constructed most of the government buildings before Namibia’s independence.
He left three (3) children; two sons are South Africans and one (1) son is a Namibian.
