A passenger died and six others were injured when a vehicle overturned on the Lizauli–Sachona gravel road on Sunday, police have confirmed.

The accident occurred at around 16h50 on 06 September 2026 in the Sachona area. According to police, an unlicensed driver was travelling from Lizauli towards Sachona when he encountered goats crossing the road on a curve.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the animals, he swerved and lost control of the Toyota Wish, which overturned.

The crash claimed the life of Kumana Miliko Namibian , an 18-year-old male passenger, whose next of kin have since been informed.

Six other passengers, aged between 17 and 21, sustained injuries and were transported to Katima Mulilo State Hospital for treatment.

The driver, a 26-year-old Namibian man, was not in possession of a valid driver’s licence at the time of the accident. He has been arrested,  and police investigations continue.

Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, Police Regional Commander in Zambezi Region, issued the police report and later confirmed that the deceased and the co-passengers who sustained injuries are school learners who were returning back to their school at Sachona.
