THE Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) is ready to conduct the by-elections in Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency after 90 days.
This follows after the death of late John Muchila Mukaya who was the councillor and member of parliament at the National Council of Namibia who died in a fatal car accident on May 26, 2021.
Ms.Lina Ndengu, Manager of Cooperate Communications at ECN, explained that the by-elections will be conducted in line with the applicable electoral act which states that any vacancy occurred should be filled by a by-election within a period of 90 days.
She said that so far about 36 registration officials were recruited who conducted the supplementary registrations on 21-23 June 2021.
The voter civic education started has started on June 7, this will be followed by the nominations of candidates for elections.
Katima Urban Constituency is one of the 8 constituencies in the Zambezi region with the population estimated to be 25,027 censuses of (2021).
The date of elections will be announced by President Hage Geingob
