DISCONTENTED TEACHER CRIES FOUL

Dear editor, allow me to express my concern in your newspaper. Things started like this, when I completed matric Grade 12, I went to the college for three years at Caprivi College of Education from 1991-94.

I started working as a teacher from 1995 at Sibbinda Primary School up to 2011 when I was transferred to Western Caprivi at Ndoro Memorial Combined School and this was a force transfer not voluntarily due to things beyond control.

To mention the issue that led to my transfer, I was too much involved in sports and culture activities but it was my responsibility to see that sport and culture in the region particularly in Sibbinda Circuit should be at the top level as I was the code convener for athletics and chairperson for the culture in Sibbinda circuit up to now.

Therefore, teaching and learning was done through remedial teaching but principals are 100% neglecting sport and culture and only a few of some principals do participate sometimes.

At Ndoro School when I reached there I never gave up promoting sport and culture and I ended up in the boxing ring with my former principal.

Still now my current principal is dancing in the same tune and there is a lot of nepotism and favoritism taking place at this school.  I do receive, implement sport and culture programmes that are already drafted at the regional and national level and I don’t make or draft my own programme at all.

I wonder why I am blamed for taking programmes at the top level in our region but lots of people can bear witness with that I am a responsible, dedicated and hard working teacher who does not move backwards but ever forward to implement learners progammes.

Now at Ndoro I am facing lots of challenges that I need to face and defend to find amicable solution.

I would like to call a spade by spade not a spade by fork in my life style. Earlier this year at Ndoro I took athletes to Rehoboth via Windhoek for the national competitions but I have been blamed for that but I followed all the required procedures except for the delayed identity forms which were not signed by parents before departing but I raised and explained the reason why forms were not available.

The school claims now that I am too much involved in sport and culture programmes but truly speaking I do teach and there’s a lot of evidence of my work now because learners are passing my subject (English) for Grade 5 to 7.

My teaching and full activities at Ndoro cannot be compared with our life skill teacher at school and again is serving as a school counselor. But since January 2013 up to the end of the first term nothing happened in Life skill  even learners can bear witness in this.

But because there’s favouritism at school people are quite on this and they are planning to take action against me because I usually call a spade by spade.

Lastly, in March 2013 I went on NBC Lozi Service talk show about things that are delaying that school to develop such as ,1. Lack of water for teachers as we want the regional office to provide water even once a week. 2. Teachers houses are not enough although the law says teachers have to build their own houses or rent houses but at this school teachers sleep in store rooms.

3. No School hostel and school fence since I arrived at that school in 2011 I found this song being sung. 4. They must try to provide or put siLozi service for us in Western Caprivi to feel part of the region and because , lots of programmes are announced over the radio but we don’t get that information earlier.

5.Our school board members are trained but some just involve themselves in school related matters without proper arrangement just verbally or telephonically.

Above all the five points mentioned above are all my points raised on NBC Lozi Service during openline but I have been summoned for doing that but I am not afraid because they are all right and straightforward.

Is it wrong if I speak on behalf of my school so that it has got to be considered by our relevant authorities?

I cannot mention other things that are paining me at that school because I am currently a member of the management but I speak the truth.

Let investigation team go to that school and you won’t see me hide or runaway. If I am wrong let advice come and we are there to work not to stay.

I thank you,

Discontented Teacher
