Crocodile kills fisherman in Chobe River near Mpwezana

By Staff Reporter

A 41-year-old Namibian man was killed by a crocodile on Thursday, 29 October 2026, while removing his fishing nets from the Chobe River at or near Mpwezana cattle post at Nakabolelwa in Kabbe South Constituency.

The deceased has been identified as Puso Busihu. According to police, he and a 21-year-old man went fishing at the river at around 06:00, but the two separated. Busihu reportedly paddled a small canoe in a different direction.

While he was pulling his fishing nets out of the water into the canoe, a crocodile allegedly attacked him and dragged him towards the Botswana side, where it began feeding on his body.

His body was recovered by casting fishing nets at the crocodile, but the animal escaped. His next of kin have been informed.

Zambezi Police Regional Commander Julia Sakuwa-Neo confirmed the incident in a crime bulletin.
