Concerned Zambezi residents petition Botswana-Namibia on BDF killings

Dozens of residents of Zambezi region held a peaceful demonstration on Friday marching the streets of Katima Mulilo with chanting songs holding placards denouncing the inhuman barbaric killings of the 4 fishermen of Impalila who were killed by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldiers on November 5.

Handing over the petition to the Zambezi regional governor Alufea Sampofu, this was addressed to the Namibian president Hage Geingob.

The group spokesperson Mr. Kabuku Simasiku read the petition with concerns that Botswana has declared war against the residents of Zambezi region.

The petition demanded the urgent repatriation of the corpses of the four brothers of the same family, Tommy, Martin and Wamunyima Nchindo and Sinvula Munyeme a Zambian relative of the deceased from Kasene in Botswana.

The petition read that the Botswana government should pay all funeral expenses and compensation of money to the dependents of all victims who were killed by the BDF since the adoption of the “Shoot-to-Kill Policy” to cover all their daily needs.

They demanded the deployment of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) along the Chobe River within 72 hours.

The petition also demanded Namibian government to consider for the immediate closure of the Botswana dry port of Walvis Bay and the closure of Botswana Embassy in Namibia in Windhoek.

They are demanding for the full investigation of all Namibian people killed by BDF at present and in the past years.

“If Masisi revoked shoot to kill policy, we demand death penalty to all BDF soldiers who killed our people” Stressed Mr Simasiku in the petition.

“Dr Hage Geingob how many more lives of residents of Zambezi region should be sacrificed  in the name of excellent bilateral relations with Botswana or Zambezi residents lives does not matter to the leadership of Namibia, please let us no within 72 hours.”

“During your oath taking as president of the Republic of Namibia you promised to protect us the inhabitants of Namibia to the best of your ability, is this the best of your ability?”

They called and demanded all members of the regional economic bloc SADC states to relocate the SADC headquarter which is in Gaborone the capital of Botswana and the SADC people to boycott and to stop buying from the stores originally owned by Botswana.

“We call upon all SADC member states to apply its mind and consider relocating SADC headquarters from Gaborone, the city that approves the killing to a very peaceful and stable SADC Country that values human life and respect the international law”

“We demand the permanent closure of all borders that connects Namibia and Botswana”

They warned all parliamentarians from Zambezi and constituency and local authority councillors to protect their people as votes are not for free.
