CHINESE ambassador to Namibia, Mr. Zhang Yiming has handed over 1,000 fast testing tool kits for COVID-19 to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on Wednesday.
The fast testing kits will be used for the effective medical tests of the newly devastating coronavirus in Namibia.
During the press conference the Chinese ambassador, Mr.Yiming disclosed that the donation was made possible by Chinese Embassy and Best Novo High-Tech Company in China.
This is part of the 12,000 fast test kits donated to help the 54 Sub-Saharan African countries.
“I hope this donation will help strengthen capacity building for Namibia to contain the COVID-19.” Stressed the ambassador.
Chinese ambassador further announced that Mr.Jack Ma, a Chinese billionaire and co-founder of Alibaba has donated masks, test kits and protective suits to all African countries to kick-out the novel coronavirus.
In Namibia, the rapid test tool kits will help in the process of detecting the coronavirus epidemic which has detected two positive cases of the visiting couple from Romania last week.
The Minister of Health and Social Services Dr. Kalumbi Shangula received the donation on behalf of the government and thanked the government of the Peoples Republic of China for their immense support and contribution in fighting the scourge of COVID-19.
He said, Namibia is still lacking expertise in the deadly novel coronavirus transmissions.
Dr. Shangula emphasized that no more positive cases has been detected so far in Namibia, as the infection still remain the same with two (2) cases reported over the weekend.
The Namibian President Dr. Hage Geingob has declared the state of emergency on Coronavirus, with the suspension of the annual national gathering marked on March 21, the 30th independence anniversary of Namibia, public gatherings such as public and private schools, and religious gatherings for 30 days.
