Zambezi Regional Council’s Chief Regional Officer, Mrs.Regina Ndopu- Lubinda confirmed to Caprivi Vision that the construction of a damping site is completed and they are also busy with phase 1 of servicing new residential plots.

She added that the construction of houses for residents of Bukalo is at the advanced stage, “86 houses are under construction for applications which we received already, we have a priority for residents of Bukalo”.

Currently, the sworn 5 Councillors have a temporal office structure where they are meeting. The CRO also explained that they (councillors) started with their duties since their sworn date in August.

“The most challenge is that there is a need of enough funds to accomplish what have been started” she said.

Other development underway, are some big business investors who approached the village Council with interests to invest in Bukalo.

She revealed that a new settlement will be born in the region to follow after Bukalo in future, “Kongola will be the next one, and we start first with the settlement and later the Village Council”.

She mentioned, saying procedures allow them to do a settlement and later is when a Council can follow.

Asked to shed some lights on the budget of Bukalo how much was allocated in the current financial year , Mrs Ndopu-Lubinda explained that Zambezi Regional Council has invested for Bukalo for the past 7years and the budget cannot be estimated as a fixed finance because they are funds from past budgets according to her.

She further urged residents of Bukalo to use their councillors to bring new ideas for developing their local authority “They should come in and engage with them”.

Bukalo Village Council was proclaimed in September 2014.
