This was revealed by Mr. Ben Lumponjani , Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Senior Sport Officer in Caprivi during a one on one interview who explained the current situation regarding athletics in the region.

“Athletics in Caprivi is in a very serious problem as everything is completely dormant, we have had no preparations as the committee was not functioning at all” Stressed Mr.Lumponjani.

He said that another committee was elected last year which was headed by Mr.Kerry Ndana as its Chairperson but nothing has happened so far in terms of athletic activities.

“In a normal situation, they should be active athletic clubs in the region with at least 20 athletics participating”, this is not the case in our region, cried Mr. Lumponjani.

He added that the main problem hampering athletics in the region is lack of volunteerism, “we lack volunteers because people are not paid anything for this”,

He told CVNEWS SPORT that the other factor which  is lacking is corporate sponsorship in the region, people like soccer and netball which do not have a problem with being sponsored, he said.

He explained that all was not lost as his office was busy around the clock, “we have secured Metropolitan to sponsor government and non-governmental institutions having games like tug of war, fun runs, and darts ”.

He also added that  he has established some boxing clubs in areas like Sanjo, Lusese and plans are in place to open a new club at Kapani.Mr.Lumponjani further said that the Chief Executive Officer of Katima Mulilo Town Council Mr. Charles Nawa personally offered sponsorship for institutions.
