18 Years for raping a minor

THE Katima Mulilo Regional Court has sentenced Manga Collins Chalo aged 22, a Namibian national to 18 years imprisonment for raping a 6 year old girl at Batubaja.

the accused is guilty of contravening section 2 (1), (a) read with section 1, 2(2) , 2(3), 3, 5, 6 & 7 of the combating rape crime Act, Act 8/2000.

On February 24, 2014 at Batubaja village in the district of Katima Mulilo the accused hereafter called the perpetrator did wrongfully and intentionally under coercive circumstances committed a sexual act with a minor who is 6 years old.

Accused Chalo called the young girl to his room and committed a sexual act with the complainant and the complainant being 6 years and 7 months old under the age of 14 years and the perpetrator being 22 years old and 10 months old being more than three years older than the complainant.

The accused pleaded guilty to the said charge and admitted that he wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally had a sexual intercourse with the female less than 6 years and he was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for rape.

In the case (CR 24/03/2014) the state was represented by magistrate William Kasitomo in the regional court while Mr. Jatiel Mundamburi represented as the state prosecutor.
