THE Special Council of the Zambezi Regional Council convened a meeting on Friday, where it vehemently took a decision to suspend its Chief Regional Officer (CRO), Ms. Regina Ndopu-Lubinda.
The suspension came at a time after Ndopu -Lubinda was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission in August this year, along with her co-accused, Councillor of Linyanti Constituency, Hon. Irven Kabunga and Mr. Solo Mutelo.
The trio are out on bail of N$ 50,000 each, and the case was transfered to Oshakati High Court.
The suspended Zambezi CRO, is accused of the 59 charges of corruption , involving allegations of tender awarded to the co-accused, on the constructions of Zambezi Waterfront and Tourism Park.
A special source within Zambezi Regional Council told Caprivi Vision that , out of eight (8) Constituency councillors only five (5) were available and formed a quorum interms of the Regional Council’s Act. Hon. Bernard Sisamu, Kabbe North Constituency Councillor was nominated to act as the Acting Chairperson since Hon. Matengu Simushi , Chaperson was absent.
Mr. Beavan Walubita, Director of Planning was appointed as the Acting CRO.
She was suspended with full benefits and salary, and her suspension is indefinite pending on the outcome of the internal investigations to be conducted by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.
Caprivi Vision established that Ms. Ndopu’s contract will come to an end in February next year.
