An Ombili settlement resident, Bernard Simon, 31, who stood accused of robbing Francina Afrikaaner at gunpoint in 2008, was sentenced to an eight year imprisonment by the Windhoek Regional court on July 27.
Ombili is situated in the outskirt of Katutura in Windhoek. The robbery occurred on September 22, 2008.
Simon robbed Afrikaaner of two wines bottles of Castelo valued at N$40 each, a Nokia cell phone valued at N$ 400, a ring, handbag and wallet, when he held her at gunpoint with a 9mm pistol before shooting her in the arm.
Simon was charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances, before Magistrate Sarel Jacobs, who suspended two years from the eight year sentence for a period of five years on condition he is not convicted of the same offence.
In the same court, Magistrate Jacobs also sentenced Ebson Witbooi, 31, on a murder charge that occurred on November 2008.
Witbooi was sent to an effective 12 year imprisonment for killing a 19 year old man Hendrik Adelio Goagoseb during a quarrel over a cellphone.
The murder incident took place at Kazongari Street in Katutura at Windhoek.
According to court documents, Witbooi stabbed Goagoseb in the neck and chest with a bread knife after cutting his hand in the kitchen where the argument and scuffle broke-out between the two.
Public Prosecutor Cliff Lutibezi represented the state in both cases.
