PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah on Wednesday , visited the Kalimbeza Rice Farm in the Zambezi Region, where she assessed rice production progress, emphasized innovation, and engaged stakeholders on how Namibia can strengthen food security through agricultural development.
Kalimbeza Rice Farm spans 229 hectares, with 150 hectares allocated to rice cultivation. During the 2024/25 farming season, 38 hectares were planted, yielding 108 tons of rice.
Welcomed by Regional Governor Dorothy Mareka Kabula and Agriculture Minister Inge Zaamwani, the President underlined the importance of Zambezi, Kavango West, and Kavango East as Namibia’s food basket regions.
“As we enhance our agricultural capacity, deadlines must be met to ensure that projects such as Kalimbeza achieve their purpose of improving food security and livelihoods for all Namibians,” she stressed.
She also reflected on her recent trip to Madagascar, where she observed groundbreaking agricultural innovations, urging Namibia to adopt similar approaches.
The visit included discussions with the University of Namibia and the Indonesian Ambassador to Namibia, H.E. Mirza Nurhidayat, on cooperation with the University of Gadjah Mada in Indonesia to boost Kalimbeza’s research and production capacity.

The visit underscored Namibia’s commitment to achieving food security by harnessing innovation, regional strengths, and international partnerships to unlock the full potential of its breadbasket regions.
