President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, inaugurated the Ndoro Memorial School Hostel in Kongola Constituency, Zambezi Region, emphasizing government’s commitment to equitable education access while urging learners to seize opportunities and communities to support education.
The inauguration took place a day after Namibia commemorated Heroes’ Day in Katima Mulilo, a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and the importance of education in building a better future.
“This hostel is not just a building; it is a home for learners, a place that symbolises progress and opportunity,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah said, stressing the facility’s capacity of 320 learners and modern sustainable features including solar power, boreholes, and a sewer treatment system for gardening.
She expressed concern over the prolonged construction period that began in 2016, warning that such delays undermine government service delivery. “This is not acceptable. Projects must be completed within the agreed timeframes,” she stated firmly.
Highlighting government’s prioritisation of education, she reminded the audience that Namibia allocates the largest share of its national budget to the sector and reaffirmed the pledge of free education from primary to tertiary levels by 2026.
The President urged learners, particularly from the Khwe and other indigenous communities in Bwabwata National Park, to take their studies seriously and contribute to national development. She also encouraged youth to pursue fields in natural resource management, engineering, and environmental sciences to harness Namibia’s emerging oil and gas industry.
The inauguration of Ndoro Memorial School Hostel marks a milestone in Namibia’s education journey, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible learning, community involvement, and preparing future generations to drive national development while honouring the sacrifices of past heroes.
