The National Democratic Party (NDP) held its two-day conference in Katima Mulilo over the weekend to review the outcomes of the recently concluded Regional Councils and Local Authority Elections.
Addressing party members and supporters, Hon. Martin Lukato, President of the NDP and Member of Parliament (MP), emphasized the importance of their gathering as part of a postmortem to reflect on the outcomes of last month’s elections. The party noted that while results were still coming in, preliminary outcomes indicated areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
However, he acknowledged voters’ trust in their candidates and thanked those who worked tirelessly. Regarding areas where they faced challenges, the party committed to listening, learning, and improving in preparation for the upcoming 2029 general elections.

“Our party remains committed to serving Namibia with integrity and dedication. We will analyze outcomes, address concerns, and strengthen our approach.
We thank all who participated and supported us. Let us continue working towards a better Namibia. Together, let us build on our strengths and move forward,” Mr. Lukato stated.
The meeting also focused extensively on amendments to the party’s constitution, party policies, leadership reports, job descriptions, party membership cards, members’ monthly contributions, and inactive members. Additionally, it addressed the appointment of new leaders at branch, constituency, regional, and national levels, shadow ministers, channels of communication, and party campaigning strategies.
“On behalf of our party [NDP], we would like to take this opportunity to extend our congratulations to the Electoral Commission of Namibia [ECN] and its management for conducting smooth, free, and fair elections, particularly the successful local authorities and regional councils elections on 26 November 2025.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) appreciates the ECN’s professionalism and dedication in ensuring a successful electoral process. The party also acknowledges the ECN’s hard work in ensuring a smooth process. We accept the results of the elections and pledge to perform much better in the upcoming elections.
The NDP accepts the outcomes of the elections and looks forward to continued collaboration for the betterment of Namibia. We commend the people of Namibia for their participation and commitment to democracy. We thank all voters for exercising their democratic right and participating in the hope of changing and shaping their communities.”
President Lukato expressed disappointment regarding the low voter turnout, as it did not correspond with the number of voters registered in the voter rolls.
“Young people did not vote in large numbers, and this is a significant concern that the ECN must address immediately. Another disappointment was the high number of spoilt ballots. Over 5,000 spoilt ballots were recorded countrywide,” stressed Mr. Lukato.
The NDP also proposed that the ECN consider civic education to address voter apathy and spoilt ballots.
“For example, the ECN could recruit youth for a three-month period in the run-up to elections to educate voters nationwide on proper voting procedures.
Another suggestion is to explore law reform, with Members of Parliament proposing changes to the Electoral Act.
Overall, the NDP is satisfied with the successful and peaceful conduct of the elections,” concluded the NDP President.
Ends.
