KATIMA MULILO – Three young people died on Sunday evening when the car they were travelling in bumped two pedestrians while overtaking and then collided head-on with a truck on the B8 road, Acting Regional Commander Deputy Commissioner Magdeline Garises, confirmed the incident in a report on Monday.
The crash happened at about 19h24 on Sunday, 27 September, on the B8 opposite the Zambezi Vocational Training Center.
According to the Namibian Police Force, the driver of a silver Toyota Wish, registration N9581KM, was travelling from the Katima Mulilo border towards town when he bumped two pedestrians while overtaking another vehicle. Moments later, the Wish hit an oncoming truck travelling from east to west.
All three occupants of the Wish died at the scene. Police identified them as the driver, Chansi Sapelapela Jonas (22), Manda Luxson Ngabi (27) and Pumulo Simataa (21), a woman. All were Namibian.
The two pedestrians, Namasiku Salyonga (26) and Sililo Mwinga (21), both women, were seriously injured.
The truck caught fire on impact and was completely burnt out. Its driver, Terence Mwansa (39), a Zambian national and the sole occupant, was not injured.
Police said the families of all three deceased have been informed. Investigations continue under Katima Mulilo case CR 247/09/2026, opened for culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving.
