Pohamba Opens Community Library at His Okanghudi Home

Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba has established a community library, the Hifikepunye Pohamba Centre, at his residence in Okanghudi to support government efforts to give every Namibian child access to quality education and learning resources.
The centre offers learners and the wider community books, computers, free Wi-Fi and other educational materials. It also has photocopying facilities and 10 computers provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture.
A dedicated children’s section, including a children’s corner, gives young children a safe and stimulating space while their mothers study or use the facility for other learning activities.
Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare commended Pohamba for the initiative during a visit to the centre. He described it as a bold and courageous contribution that will benefit both the present generation and generations to come.
Ngurare said the centre supports the objectives of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP 6), particularly its focus on expanding access to quality, inclusive and equitable education and developing human capital.
He called on education partners, the private sector and other stakeholders to help strengthen the initiative. He also encouraged communities and institutions across the country to follow the example and promote access to education and learning resources.
The centre is a community-driven investment in education, knowledge-sharing and lifelong learning, with the potential to make a lasting contribution to Okanghudi and beyond.
