The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) disbursed N$1 billion for the development of critical national healthcare infrastructure. This marks a significant milestone in strengthening Namibia’s health system.

The bank has announced that the programme is part of Government’s “ROADMAP” initiative. This initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. It is aligned with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework. The goal is to deliver integrated, high-quality healthcare services.

DBN is part of a broader national effort for funding priority healthcare infrastructure. This initiative falls under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6). The Ministry of Finance leads it, working alongside the National Planning Commission and the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

In response DBN took action. They undertook to mobilise the required financing. This financing supports national healthcare infrastructure. DBN’s N$1 billion funding will be used for the construction and core infrastructure of the Windhoek District Hospital. The hospital will be a 500-bed Class C facility. It is aimed at addressing critical bed shortages in the Khomas Region. It will ease pressure on existing referral hospitals and the developments of Nkurenkuru, Otjiwarongo and Ondangwa District Hospitals.

DBN’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Titus Ndove highlighted the strategic importance of the deal. He stated, “This investment demonstrates the power of coordinated financing by the Ministry of Finance in addressing national priorities. It ensures a holistic approach to healthcare delivery that will have a lasting impact on our communities.”

He added that beyond improving access to healthcare, the project is expected to stimulate economic activity. This will happen through construction, local procurement, and job creation. It will also allow DBN to optimise its balance sheet by deploying necessary capital into high-quality, development-oriented assets.

DBN further outlined that it remains committed to working alongside government. It collaborates with development finance partners to bridge funding gaps. Together, they accelerate the delivery of infrastructure that underpins Namibia’s long-term socio-economic development.
