Institutions of learning Unite for Town Cleaning Campaign

Students from various tertiary institutions in the Zambezi Region will join forces tomorrow, Friday for a Town Cleaning Campaign under the theme “My Presence, My Responsibility.”

The event will take place at the Office of the Zambezi Regional Governor, starting at 07:30 in the morning.

The campaign is organised by the Office of the Governor in collaboration with the University of Namibia, Katima Mulilo Campus SRC, this aims to promote cleanliness, unity, and a sense of responsibility among young people in the region.

Participating institutions includes Tulipohamba, EUREKA, Shiramed, ZVTC, Triumphant College, NUST, WELWITCHIA, Simon Mutumba Training Centre, and UNAM.

The program will feature welcoming remarks, speeches, and a field cleaning activity around Katima Mulilo town.

Speaking ahead of the event, Katima Mulilo University of Namibia Campus SRC Vice President, Mr. Simazina Mungomba , said the activity will be led by UNAM SRCs and is meant to inspire collective action among students.

“The main purpose is for us students at higher institutions to show how we can help keep the community clean and to bring all institutions together,” he said.

He however added that “Secondly, we want students to take responsibility in their community. We bought some plastic bags and equipment to use during the cleaning, and we want to remind students that we are one people and the community depends on our actions. We need to take responsibility and take care of our environment.”

The campaign will conclude with a vote of thanks, closing remarks, and a picture session with refreshments.

Organisers have encouraged participants to wear their institutional uniforms or branded T-shirts to promote visibility and unity.

The initiative highlights the growing commitment of young people in the Zambezi Region in maintaining a clean and healthy environment through teamwork and civic engagement.
