Namibia declares public holidays for Geingob’s burial

THE Namibian government has declared February 25 and 26 as public holidays in giving a dignified burial  to the former president of Namibia Dr. Hage Geingob and the Namibia nation to mourn their late president.

In a media statement issued on Sunday, by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology , Emma Theofelus states that  “ in order to give a dignified burial  and to give all Namibians to mourn their beloved president, Dr. Hage Geingob, President Nangolo Mbumba will declare Sunday , 25 February 2024,  a public holiday.”

 According to the Public Holidays Act of 1990 ( Act 26 of 1990) defines that when a public holiday falls on a Sunday , the following Monday is observed as a Public Holiday.

MICT Minister further announced that  “Monday 26 February 2024 will be declared a public holiday. This arrangement will allow for the burial of the late President on Sunday , 25 February 2024.”

The main Memorial Service is slated for Saturday February 24, 2024 at Independence Stadium in Windhoek. Free Transport will be made available to the public on before and after the Memorial.

The place of Burial is yet to be announced later.
