THREE (3) Health organisations in Katima Mulilo have entered dialogue on mental health care in the work place as part of commemorating the World Health month through dialogue.

The Namibia National Student Organisation (NANSO), La Cortina Investment and Milan Medical Care Centre have entered a mental health care dialogue with the Students of Katima Mulilo University of Namibia Campus on Friday.

The 2024 lessons are based and taught under the theme “it is time to prioritise mental health in the work place” and this was said during the event where one student explained that there is no health without mental health.

During the presentations, Dr. Peterson Lumponjani from Milan Medical Care Centre explained that He was excited seeing young people being involved in mental health issues.
“Mental Health is not always something negative but it means, what can you do for yourself to obtain happiness while living among other people and certain environment and ways on how to achieve these things.” He explained.

He went on saying that if sitting at home watching television is found to be too much interesting and felt happy about it then then this becomes a personality, but the problem might come if a person is sited
with thoughts of committing suicide, drinking poison and all unnecessary things one can do, such people should start seeking some medical help from health professionals.

“We all sit here with brains that has neurons transmitters that plays a role in how we conceive things, how your pensive happiness and how you act”, he explained.
Dr. Lumponjani therefore encouraged those who are still new in the town of Katima Mulilo and those who still have private discussions about mental health that such people are welcome to visit Milan Medical Care Centre opposite Caprivi Cash and Carry in Katima Mulilo.

He however explained that doctors do not believe that there are some crazy or mad people but those acts are for people who are affected by neurons and hormones which affected a lot of things that people are being exposed too, mostly in food which seem to play a very big role in peoples mental health.

A School Representative Council (SRC), for External Affairs at Katima Mulilo Campus , Sikerete Victorino Tiago spoke on the importance of mental health and indicated saying that mental health can also contribute to physical health which has to do with the brains. If the brain is fine then a person can conquer the entire body’s health. Mental health also helps with good decision making as well as good relationship with people.

“you can support someone with mental health by listening to them and being empathetic to those people because they trust in you that’s why they came to you” Sikerete said.

According to Mrs Mwangala Muunda, CEO and Owner of La Cortina Investments, pointed that as October  is a mental health month,  her organisation , La Cortina saw the need to conduct the  event  as
residents of Zambezi region  are not exempted from challenges that comes with mental health illnesses.

“This dialogue is aimed at creating  a platform for students and  community members of the Zambezi region to dialogue and share awareness on issues  that relates to  mental  health . The secondary aim is to see to it that community efforts can find ways through which the male population can be encouraged to unpack their painful emotion towards healing approach”
