ZAMBEZI Regional Governor Lawrence Sampofu is calling business entities in the region, to pledge for support in kind and financially, to be able to renovate the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex for 2018’s Namibian Newspaper Cup Easter Tournament bonanza that will be hosted in the region in March next year.
Governor Sampofu made his call on Tuesday at the public meeting of the business community in Katima Mulilo after their were served with a communiqué letter for the urgent meeting that deliberated on the matter before its too late.
He made these sentiments that was called by his office and office of Katima Mulilo town mayor Georgina Mwiya-Simataa that was held at Katima Mulilo Town Council’s chamber and a few number of members from different business communities and stakeholders within the township of Katima Mulilo attended the meeting and proposed for the meeting to be scheduled for budget preparation and to give other business people chance who didn’t have time to attend the meeting to attend it, this coming Friday at 15Hrs at the same venue.
Zambezi region will host the 18th edition of the Namibian Newspaper cup during the joyful season of Easter. Last year the cup was hosted at the coastal town of Swakopmund in Erongo region.
He said since all other 13 regions will come to Zambezi for the cup it will be a good opportunity for business communities to generate more and their support in that regard to renovate and make other preparations for the newspaper cup was of great important.
“Hosting of the Namibian Newspaper cup will be another move in sport in the region. Last year we went for bidding but we failed because we did not have facilities that are needed to host the cup and that became a problem” He stressed.
During the meeting Zambezi Governor asked business owners to advice their workers to take customer care and service as an important aspect in a business and to make sure that their premises are always clean in order for the town to look neat.
“Our town looks very very dirty and we are the gate way to central Africa and we are just 200 kilometers to Victoria Falls whereby Its easy for tourists to come to our town, let us keep our town clean” he noted.
He also confirmed that floodlights that had been a big problem to host the cup have been bought by the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service and are already in the region waiting for installations.
At the attendance were Zambezi Regional Council Chairperson and Councillor for Judea Lyabboloma Constituency Beaven Munali and Councillor Peter Mwala of Kabbe North Constituency including members of the organizing committee staffs of Zambezi Regional Council.
The Namibian Newspaper Cup organizing team will visit Katima Mulilo on November 8.
