FORMER Namibian President, Dr. Hifikepunye Pohamba has shared words of wisdom to the Namibian Prime Minister, Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare on Sunday.
Prime Minister Dr. Ngurare paid a courtesy visit to the former second President Dr. Pohamba at his Okanghudi homestead over the weekend on Sunday, where the two leaders exchanged lighthearted moments and serious reflections on Namibia’s future.
Welcomed warmly by the Pohamba family, Dr. Ngurare was congratulated on his appointment as Head of the 8th Administration. In a jovial gesture, Dr. Pohamba shook his hand saying, “Let me shake your hand for the first time as Prime Minister,” before sharing words of guidance.
The former President urged Dr. Ngurare to address youth unemployment and to promote unity within government structures. He also called for the revival of agricultural initiatives, stressing that Namibia must work towards food security in line with President Netumbo’s vision that “a country with so few citizens should not suffer from hunger.”

Dr. Pohamba further encouraged the effective use of Namibia’s natural resources to foster self-reliance and pressed for rural development to ensure all Namibians have access to education, healthcare, and electricity.
As a gesture of appreciation, Prime Minister Ngurare presented Dr. Pohamba with two hand-carved chairs engraved with the national coat of arms as a birthday gift.
In essence, the visit was not only a meeting between two statesmen but also a passing of wisdom, as Pohamba reminded the new Prime Minister of the nation’s pressing priorities and the values of unity, self-reliance, and service to the people.
