ALMOST seven months now the Department of Water Environment in Katima Mulilo is without water, which makes it difficult to operate efficiently.
Close to nine thousand Namibian dollars is owed to the Katima Mulilo Town Council, the water bill has reckoned the amount of Eight Thousand Nine Hundred and One dollar Five cent (N$8, 901.05) owed by water environment office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry at Katima Mulilo, Zambezi region which caused the disconnections of water service by the Katima Mulilo Town Council (KMTC) some seven months ago.

Technical Assistant Officer Mr. Reinhold Shindondola at Water Environment, Katima Mulilo Regional Office said the office has been in such situation for quiet some time now and Shilimela Security Services taking care of the premises and some properties together with officials of the department are suffering as they need to carry water containers everyday they come to work from their houses.

Mr. Shindondola added that the situation was already reported to the Ministry’s headquarter in Windhoek but nothing materialized. “Everything we request here at Katima Mulilo from our line ministry goes in vain, last time we requested for a strong vehicle but we were sent an old 1tonner Nissan which is even leaking” He stressed.
He pointed out that some flash salvinia molesta (Muchimbami) for breeding ponds, which are described as one of their job description, have dried out because of water that was disconnected by the Katima Mulilo Town Council.
“For now we are forced to go in bush to help ourselves because we can’t use toilets without water,” He concluded.
He further called on the line Ministry to look on their concerns as a matter of urgency, as they feel to be left aside by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry.
