Members of the 8th National Assembly sworn-in

Ninety-six (96) members of the 8th National Assembly were sworn-in on Thursday.  

This comes after the outcome of the National Assembly elections held in November last year, when parliamentarians were indirectly elected through the party list system.

The ruling SWAPO party has secured 51 seats, while the new political party , Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) , occupied 20 seats as an official opposition party for the next five years.

Six seats for AR, LPM and PDM have 5 seats respectively, including minor political parties such as All People’s Party, Body of Christ, National Democratic Party, Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters , NUDO , RP and SWANU have each secured 1 seat. UDF is having two(2) seats.

The incoming president of the Republic of Namibia , Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to appoint additionally eight (8) non-voting members to bring a total of 104 seats in the National Assembly of Namibia.

They were all sworn-in by the Chief Justice Peter Shivute.
