After winning the second division league for Caprivi Soccer League (CSL) with 55 points, on June 16 – 17th at Katima Mulilo Sport Complex, Kingfisher Football Club has qualified to go to the northern stream first division play offs for 2012/2013 season.
The northern stream first division playoff at Tsumeb in Oshikoto region kicked off on June 23-24.
Following the success in the games, Caprivi Vision Sport desk, caught up with the Kingfisher coach, Mr. Daniel Mbala, for a short interview on the progress made and its performances.
Mr. Mbala, despite their loss, praised his team, of 23 best players, on how they played when they competed against Epupa Football club, from Omusati region, who won by 3 to 2 goals. He blamed his loss to that of his players not having adequate rest.
“The team was a bit restless and tired due to the distance travelled between Katima Mulilo and Tsumeb. Our reason for driving out late was because we received out travelling allowances from Namibia Football Association (NFA) at an improper time.
The players only rested a bit when we arrived in the morning, before the commencement of their first game” said Mr. Mbala.
He however, added that during their second game against Outjo Sport Football club from Kunene region, they managed to perform well as they won 2 goals to 0.
“Following a loss, the team’s mood soared high and they were motivated to win and at the same time impress the spectators with their skills and tactics,” he explained.
During the last match with Ohangwena region’s Young chiefs Football Club, Kingfisher managed to tackle the team at 8 goals to 0.
According to him Kingfisher FC did not qualify to go for first division because of first game they lost to Epupa FC which had 7 points while Kingfisher FC obtained 6 points. Epupa FC was promoted to first division.
“People were impressed with our performances. Our team captain and defence player played very well, while our midfielder player managed to score a total of 4 goals in all games. The main striker scored 5 goals in all games. This is a legacy on it own, as the region is on the map now for northern stream first division” he said.
The coach said in the next season, if Kingfisher FC gets such a chance of winning the league to go and represent the region, they will not be delayed by other obstacles such as unavailability of funds immediately.
“We won’t wait until we receive our travelling allowance from NFA which caused the delay in leaving but we will solicit as we have learnt a lesson the hard way.” he further said.
