Mr. Event Mubita Linyando, Secretary General of the Caprivi Concerned Group

THE Caprivi Concerned Group (CCG) is calling for no vote  in the upcoming Namibia’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections slated for November 27, 2024.

This came  due to unresolved  matters by the Namibian government regarding the longstanding political disputes , boundary treaties , call for referendum and other fundamental rights for the residents.

This was announced by Mr. Event Mubita Linyando, CCG Secretary General at a press conference held on Saturday.

According to Mr. Linyando, there are still unsatisfactory answers from the Namibian government  , which pose concerns about the history of the Caprivi Strip now Zambezi region which they still argue with facts that it is not part of Namibia and was never even once a Namibian territory.

CCG, gave various reasons why the people of Zambezi should not partake in the up-coming elections, such as follows:

  1. Caprivi concerned group is not convinced on how Caprivi Strip became part of Namibia.
  2. The National Assembly rejected our request for the referendum last year [2023] to be supervised by the UN.
  3. African Union 2016, request for provisional measures under rule 98 of the procedures of African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.
  4. CCG has been attempting to enter a dialog with the Namibian government but these calls were met with threats of treason and arrest by the Namibian government.
  5. CCG demanded the release of all Caprivi Political Prisoners but Caprivians are sill in jail in both Namibia and Botswana.
  6. Namibian government is seceding our land to Botswana and Kavango.
  7. Caprivians were murdered and buried in the mass grave in 1999 in the Caprivi Strip.
  8. African Union supported the Namibian government not to continue with the signing of the boundary treaty with Botswana because Caprivi Strip is in question/ dispute.
  9.  Name change from Caprivi to Zambezi.

With the above reasons , CCG Secretary General explained that the political dispute still exists.“ so why should Caprivians participate in the upcoming Namibian general election?” he quashed.

“We therefore call for all Native Caprivians, CCG members, supporters and sympathizers to go and register in numbers to have voters cards so that come November 2024 when the Caprivi Concerned Group says NO Vote we should really mean it while holding our voter’s cards and it’s our right to say NO vote while holding that voters’ card” he said.

CCG Secretary further added that “ Namibian government is refusing to meet on the table , we will meet with them during campaigning time , we are going to campaign for no vote as they are campaigning for their government”

Mr. Aldrin Mahulilo, Chairperson of the Caprivi Concerned Group also added that there is still no-good answer saying that “ the  Namibian government is playing a sick and hard tactic where they are saying Muyongo is the drafter of the Caprivi Strip ”

He said the response is not satisfactory  and not to be true with the fact that he knows that Mr. Muyongo was in coalition with DTA where they drafted the Namibian Constitution.

CCG Chairperson explained that UDP was not and still not registered with the ECN [Electoral Commission of Namibia].

“ And if it was why did they not consult the parliament of South Africa because up to now Caprivi Strip is still part of South Africa. The prosecution of the Caprivi prisoners was delayed.”Mahulilo concluded.
