THREE Conservancies in Zambezi region have received a total of N$788,594 grants for the Poverty-Oriented Support to Community Conservation In Namibia (POSCCIN).

The grants were handed over to Bamunu , Sobbe and Kwandu Conservancies in Zambezi region on Wednesday , as part of the award by the Wildlife Credits Namibia, this is because of the conservancies’ good performance of not staying within wildlife corridors, which allows the wildlife to move freely without anyone residing in such corridors.

“We say they must be a payment for this performance because the community is sacrificing something…and for that they are people who are generous to provide this amount of money”Mr. Theofilus Nghitila explained.

Cheques were officially handed over to the conservancies by the MP and Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Hon.Pohamba Shifeta , as well as the Zambezi regional Governor honourable Lawrence Sampofu.

The amount on each cheques shows that Bamunu received N$137,818.00, while Sobbe got N$ 610,776.00 and Kwandu was awarded an amount of N$ 40,000.00 .

At the same occasion , a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser and various equipment such as river signs to caution people to be aware of crocodiles and hippos, bicycles and a car will be used by the conservancies to reach the affected areas on time instead of calling for help from the offices.

The two excavators keys were also handed over , one for the two Kavango regions and one for Zambezi region.

“These machines will be used to dig some tranches for the region instead of hiring a machine from other regions” Shifeta said.

Environment, Forestry and Tourism minister Shifeta further urged conservancies to be transparent. “I am impressed by some conservancies because when I visit them, they provide some evidences of their progress and how they used the money, which some invests in making projects, helping school learners with food and uniforms in around the community”.
